Holiday Gifts from NIOSH

Posted on by Blog Coordinator

If you are lucky enough to get some time off over the holidays, you may find yourself looking for something to listen to, watch, or read.  Our gift to you this holiday season is a compilation of the songs, movies and books with workplace safety and health themes that we have collected through the NIOSH Science Blog.  These lists were initiated by NIOSH and have grown with additions from our readers.  To save you the trouble of scrolling through all of the comments, we have incorporated all of the suggestions into one comprehensive list for each medium.

List of songs with workplace safety and health themes.

List of books with workplace safety and health themes.

List of movies with workplace safety and health themes.

This is the best kind of gift—one that keeps on giving.  If you find yourself in the gift giving sprit, add to the lists via the comment sections on the respective blogs Work Songs, OSH in the Movies: This Time It’s Personal, and Tales of Toil or, in the comment section below.

Happy reading/viewing/listening and all the best for a Happy, Healthy and Safe Holiday Season!

Missing from this fine collection are songs by the late great coal miner’s daughter, Hazel Dickens. She wrote and performed a treasure trove of songs about working people and coal miners in particular. Her Never Keep Us Down, Coal Miner’s Grave, Coal Mining Women are but a few gems she wrote.

Thank you for the holiday cheer and lists. I am a homeschool educator and a union member, which means I will be using the listed songs, books and movies in my lessons and pass the information on to others in unions and other interested parties. Happy holidays NIOSH.

Love the list. I work in a job where safety is paramount. I have to make sure all my workers are working safely and have a safe environment to work in. we need to keep in mind all of these great safety related themes.

    Thanks!
