Peggy Bushey RN, CDN, is the Nurse Manager for Renal Services at Fletcher Allen Healthcare (FAHC) in Burlington, VT. She has been an RN since 1977 spending the early years of her career in the critical care arena, and the last 15 years in the dialysis world. She is currently managing five satellite dialysis units throughout the state of Vermont. For the past five years Peggy has been actively involved in infection prevention in hemodialysis and was part of the first wave of facilities to join the CDC Dialysis BSI Prevention Collaborative. Starting in 2009 she worked with Sally Hess CIC MPH, to implement an “Infection Prevention Advocate” program that engaged all levels of staff and standardized infection prevention practices at the satellites; resulting in a 75% decline in the central line access-related bloodstream infection rate. Peggy is also a participant in the ESRD Network 1 HAI LAN and has presented posters at New England Culture of Safety Symposium and ESRD Network1 Annual Conference. She is currently actively rolling out the CDC Station Disinfection Practice throughout the Fletcher Allen Healthcare dialysis satellites.
