Dr. John O’Keefe is the current Chairman of the Board for the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and has been serving on the board since 2012. Based in Ontario, Canada, he is a licensed dentist and provides care on a part-time basis to people with limited access to dental care. Dr. O’Keefe is also an active member of the board of AboutFace, an advocacy group for persons touched by facial difference.
Dr. O’Keefe has held a variety of positions with the Canadian Dental Association (CDA). Since 2011 he has been the Director of Knowledge Networks for the organization and serves as an ambassador for the organization. His responsibilities include the development of the Journal of the Canadian Dental Association (JCDA) as a clinical decision support system for the dental office. Between 1997 and 2010 Dr. O’Keefe held the position of Editor-in-Chief for the CDA and oversaw the content of the JCDA and the Association’s website.
He graduated as a dentist from the University of Dublin, Ireland, in 1980, and obtained a research-based M.Dent.Sc. degree from the same university in 1990. From 1991to1993, Dr. O’Keefe participated in a professional MBA program in Montreal, which provided general management training. He obtained a certificate from the National Dental Examining Board of Canada in 1995. He has taught at both the University of Toronto and the McGill University dental schools.
He has Honorary Fellowships with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, the Academy of Dentistry International, the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the OKU Dental Honor Society, and the Finnish Dental Society. He has also been chair of the communications committee of the FDI World Dental Federation and served as president of the American Association of Dental Editors.
