David P. Calfee, MD, MS

Dr. Calfee is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Weill Cornell Medical College and is the Chief Hospital Epidemiologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell in New York City.  He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.  His research interests include the epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance.  He has served on the Steering Committees for the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) and United Hospital Fund (UHF) Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection Collaborative and C. difficile Collaborative.  He was the physician leader of the GNYHA-UHF Antimicrobial Stewardship Project.  He is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA).  He was the lead author of the MRSA section of the SHEA/IDSA Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Acute Care Hospitals.  He formerly served as the Chair of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Committee of SHEA.  He has served as Deputy Editor and editorial advisory board member of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.
