Frank Mahoney is a Captain in the US Public Health Service. He and his wife Joan moved to Jakarta in August 2007. Their two children live in Washington DC. CAPT Mahoney has served in a variety of assignments for PHS Including 10 years working in the Eastern Mediterranean Region with the US Naval Medical Research Unit No. 3 and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) of the World Health Organization. He is a member of the EMRO Technical Advisory Group on Immunization. In recent consultations with EMRO, he assisted in the development of a regional strategy to prevent hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus transmission in EMR Member States. The strategy will be presented to the Ministers of Health in the upcoming meeting of the Regional Committee in the EMR. CAPT Mahoney is the author of numerous scientific publications and book chapters and is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America, American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the John Snow Society. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University.
