{"id":7091,"date":"2007-06-13T20:25:07","date_gmt":"2007-06-13T20:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nchspressroom.wordpress.com\/2007\/06\/13\/morbid-obesity\/"},"modified":"2007-06-13T20:25:07","modified_gmt":"2007-06-13T20:25:07","slug":"morbid-obesity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cdc.gov\/nchs\/2007\/06\/13\/7091\/","title":{"rendered":"Morbid Obesity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Overweight and obesity data collected by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/about\/major\/nhanes\/bhistory.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey<\/a> for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/\" rel=\"noopener\">National Center for Health Statistics<\/a>\u00a0show <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/fastats\/overwt.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">obesity increasing <\/a>among Americans of all ages.<\/p>\n<p>Obesity is defined as having a<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhlbisupport.com\/bmi\/\" rel=\"noopener\"> body mass index <\/a>\u00a0(BMI) of 30 or greater.<\/p>\n<p>There is a subset of obesity called morbid or extreme obesity which is defined as having a BMI of 40 or greater or weighing in excess of 100 pounds of one&#8217;s ideal weight.
