{"id":7086,"date":"2007-04-17T20:10:40","date_gmt":"2007-04-17T20:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nchspressroom.wordpress.com\/2007\/04\/17\/overweight-and-obesity\/"},"modified":"2007-04-17T20:10:40","modified_gmt":"2007-04-17T20:10:40","slug":"overweight-and-obesity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cdc.gov\/nchs\/2007\/04\/17\/7086\/","title":{"rendered":"Overweight and obesity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Center for Health Statistics provides the &#8220;gold standard&#8221; for the study of overweight and obesity through the data produced by its National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).<\/p>\n<p>Unlike <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/brfss\/\" title=\"Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System\" rel=\"noopener\">some surveys<\/a>\u00a0which are conducted by telephone and rely upon self-reported height\/weight information, the NHANES provides height and weight data acquired in a clinical setting.<\/p>\n<p>While the telephone survey data are compiled at state and metropolitan statistical area level of detail the NHANES data are only available as national level data.<\/p>\n<p>Links to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/fastats\/overwt.htm\" title=\"Obesity and overweight data\" rel=\"noopener\">NCHS overweight and obesity data<\/a>\u00a0from 1960 through the most recent\u00a0are located here on the NCHS website.<\/p>\n<p>We have recently produced\u00a0data covering <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/products\/pubs\/pubd\/hestats\/overweight\/overwght_child_under02.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">children 0-2 years of age <\/a>and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/products\/pubs\/pubd\/hestats\/overweight\/overwght_child_03.htm\" rel=\"noopener\">2-5 years of age<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Center for Health Statistics provides the &#8220;gold standard&#8221; for the study of overweight and obesity through the data produced by its National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
