A federal plan to enhance the nation\u2019s health information technology\u00a0infrastructure was published in 2015 to support information sharing.<\/p>\n<p>A new NCHS\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/databriefs\/db261.pdf\">report<\/a> uses the 2015 National Electronic Health Records\u00a0Survey to describe the extent to which physicians can electronically\u00a0send, receive, integrate, and search for patient health information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Findings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2015, the percentage\u00a0of physicians who had\u00a0electronically sent patient\u00a0health information ranged from\u00a019.4% in Idaho to 56.3% in\u00a0Arizona.<\/li>\n<li>In 2015, the percentage\u00a0of physicians who had\u00a0electronically received patient\u00a0health information ranged\u00a0from 23.6% in Louisiana<br \/>\nand Mississippi to 65.5% in\u00a0Wisconsin.<\/li>\n<li>In 2015, the percentage\u00a0of physicians who had\u00a0electronically integrated patient\u00a0health information from other\u00a0providers ranged from 18.4% in\u00a0Alaska to 49.3% in Delaware.<\/li>\n<li>In 2015, the percentage\u00a0of physicians who had\u00a0electronically searched for\u00a0patient health information\u00a0ranged from 15.1% in the<br \/>\nDistrict of Columbia to 61.2%\u00a0in Oregon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health\u00a0Act (HITECH) provides financial incentives to eligible providers using a\u00a0certified electronic health record (EHR) system.
