Children with\u00a0ADHD were diagnosed by a wide variety of health care providers, including primary\u00a0care physicians and specialists.<\/li>\n<li>Regardless of age at diagnosis, the majority of children\u00a0(53.1%) were first diagnosed by primary care physicians. Notable differences were\u00a0found by age at diagnosis for two types of specialists.<\/li>\n<li>Children diagnosed before age\u00a06 were more likely to have been diagnosed by a psychiatrist, and those diagnosed at\u00a0ages 6 and over were more likely to have been diagnosed by a psychologist.<\/li>\n<li>Among\u00a0children diagnosed with ADHD, the initial concern about a child\u2019s behavior was\u00a0most commonly expressed by a family member (64.7%), but someone from school or\u00a0daycare first expressed concern for about one-third of children later diagnosed with\u00a0ADHD (30.1%).<\/li>\n<li>For approximately one out of five children (18.1%), only family\u00a0members provided information to the child\u2019s doctor during the ADHD assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new NCHS\u00a0report describes the diagnostic experiences of a sample of\u00a0children in the United States diagnosed with attention-deficit\/hyperactivity disorder\u00a0(ADHD) as of 2011\u20132012.
