Every flu season is different, and influenza infection can affect people differently. An annual seasonal flu vaccine (either through a shot or\u00a0nasal mist) is the best way to reduce\u00a0a person&#8217;s\u00a0chances\u00a0of getting seasonal flu and spreading it to others.<\/p>\n<p>Influenza vaccination rates among U.S. adults aged 18 and over\u00a0inched up slightly\u00a0from 35% in 2010\u00a0to 37% in <a title=\"Influenza vaccination among adults aged 18 and over, by selected characteristics: United States, selected years 1989\u20132011\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/hus\/hus12.pdf#080\">2011<\/a>. \u00a0This\u00a0represents a big improvement from 1989 when only 9.6% of the adult population were reported to be\u00a0vaccinated.\u00a0Women are more likely than men to have ever received a\u00a0influenza vaccination. Adults aged 75 years or older\u00a0are more likely to have ever received a\u00a0influenza vaccination compared with adults aged 65 to 74 years.
